In postmenopausal patients with osteopenia, EVISTA® (raloxifene HCl tablets) significantly reduced the risk for developing osteoporosis in the lumbar spine over 5 years1:

In a post-hoc analysis of two 3-year prospective osteoporosis prevention trials* with 2-year extensions, a subset of young postmenopausal women with osteopenia of the lumbar spine (n=146, mean age 55, mean T-score -1.72) were examined. In this population, 2 women taking EVISTA vs 12 women taking placebo developed osteoporosis at this site. Among women with osteopenia of the total hip at baseline, 0 women taking EVISTA vs 2 women taking placebo developed osteoporosis at this site.1
*In the primary analysis, EVISTA prevented bone loss by increasing BMD in the lumbar spine, total hip, and femoral neck over 24 months vs placebo. This analysis included 24-month data from two 3-year, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled osteoporosis prevention trials with 1,145 postmenopausal women (mean age 55 years) who had normal or low BMD. All women received calcium (400-600 mg/day).
